Be in the room for English National Ballet’s return to Plymouth for the first time in 36 years.
English National Ballet, one of the world’s great dance companies, makes a splash by bringing two exciting works that will grab you from the moment the curtain rises and take you to the very core of the human experience, in a way only dance can.
The programme opens with Body and Soul (Part 1), by acclaimed choreographer Crystal Pite, who has won five Olivier Awards and worked with companies around the world. This hypnotic piece, originally created for Paris Opera Ballet, presents a variation on a theme of conflict. It begins with a duet that soon swells into 36 dancers creating mesmerising waves of movement: expect intimacy, intensity and breathtaking moments.
The second piece is Proper Conduct, choreographed by Kameron N. Saunders, an artist who has built a huge following as a commercial dancer for some of the world’s biggest acts, including Taylor Swift and Chappell Roan.
Inspired by his personal experience, Saunders explores the struggle to find our authentic self under crushing societal scrutiny. Proper Conduct unfolds in three parts, to an original score by Harold Walker III and Brandon Finklea, which will be performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic. Movement, music and storytelling come together for a soul-stirring piece on the complexity of how we live.
